Newton Chiles Harling

K.I.A. Battle of Chickamauga
Brother to Tillman Harling
Brother-in-law to Jacob B. Ouzts

On the inside of the case of the small photo was the following note written to his wife from the field of battle. Newton lost his life in the Battle of Chickamaugua nearly two years to the day after writing the following:

"When this you see,
remember me.
Though I may be
far far away.
Forget me not,
forget me never
until yonder sun
shall set forever.
